Prepare for Success: A Good Job Search Requires Resilience!

“I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.”

Maya Angelou

Dawn, coffee and watching ducks in the lake, a winning combination! It appeared to be a good day!

My consciousness was jolted by the words of a CNN news reporter “It’s a new day!”  The day was 01/20/21: the day the 46th president of the United States would be sworn into office. Indeed, it was a new day in every sense of the word! A day to look forward with great expectation!

Think back to my post on change, if you haven’t yet started your metamorphosis for your job search, you should start now. Let 2021 be your dance ! You are not defeated, just re-setting and re-charging for a better position! You are worthy , express APT! Be encouraged by the words of the newly elected president Joe Biden, “to heal you must remember”…yes, remember with action for the present! Power up your job search! Why wait…the time is now!

It’s important that you stay true to who you are. View the moment as simply a temporary setback. Don’t let the moment define who you are. Channel your negative emotions into action!  While reading as a child, I was often told to sit tall and not hunch my shoulders because hunching would destroy my spine! This advice has carried over into my adult life…stand tall, spine erect, be resilient! Your success lies in being proactive! If you need to, change your direction and make it a new day!

For those who watched the inauguration ceremony, you may remember the words of the inauguration poet Amanda Gorman, “We will rebuild, reconcile and recover.”  Powerful words! Words that have resounded with me since that moment… so lets be resilient and rebuild!

It’s a new day! Yes you can!

job search prepare success resilience everything will be ok

My go to music player is IHeart radio and ironically, on 01/20/21 my walking song that day was “Destiny” by the Jamaican reggae artist Buju Banton. The lyrics “a wanna rule my destiny” could not have been more fitting for the moment. Yes, it’s a new day and your destiny is your own! For those who are not familiar with the Jamaican dialect (patois) and interpreting the lyrics of the song, the community will be happy to help you.

You may find these short courses offered by the University of Pennsylvania, Resilience Skills in a Time of Uncertainty and Positive Psychology: Resilience Skills, quite useful in your journey. The information was shared with me by a university professor I personally know and trust so I am positive you and I will find value in its content.

T’s tip: Make today, your day to rule your destiny!
