REFLECTION ON LOVE: I LOVE YOU

Matters of the Heart

We write for the same reason that we walk, talk, climb mountains or swim the oceans – because we can. We have some impulse within us that makes us want to explain ourselves to other human beings. That’s why we paint, that’s why we dare to love someone – because we have the impulse to explain who we are.”

Maya Angelou

Many people consider love a “matter of the heart” but in actuality it is a “matter of the brain.” The brain releases  hormones that allow the body  to act in a certain way when you meet someone new or someone to whom you are attracted.  Yes, the sweaty palms, fluttering of the heart and stammer are directly related to ones brain function.  It is believed that the fluttering and racing of the heart are what most people associate with being in love or romantic love.

There are two categories of love, romantic and unromantic, and three distinct stages; attraction, lust and attachment. I am sure many people can relate to the different stages maybe even once in their lifetime…I can!

Unromantic Love

Family together

Unromantic love usually occurs between friends, peers, children and parents. In this type of love relationship there is no physical attraction, it can be intimate but not sexual. Unromantic love is considered unconditional and supportive love.

Romantic Love

Romantic love is the intense attraction that you feel for someone else. This is the heart fluttering love, the type that brings individuals together for conscious coupling. It is an exhilarating feeling of sharing with someone else things that you have in common or the dreams you have for the future. Romantic love many times lead to the formation of a nucleus or family structure.

Love and Happiness

I am not an expert on love but know what it means to be in love and, to give and receive unconditional love! Many people associate love with happiness but one should first find happiness within to fully accept and embrace the love of another. I truly believe its better to have known love than to have never loved.

Love Reading: Inna Mi Heart; Jamaican Love poetry by the Jamaican poet Joan Andrea Hutchinson. Beautiful poetry written in both the Jamaican dialect (patois) and English. Enjoy!

Favorite Love Movie: Ghost a 1990 tear-jerker starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore.

I like it how you view ‘love’, it is very mature and full. I can totally relate to it and that is how I see love as well. I agree that non-romantic love is more important while romantic love is always a start of the family.

Love definitely comes in different forms. I did enjoy reading your posts. It is also important to remember you can love someone but you don’t have to always like them. It is just something I always instilled in my kids when they had issues with one another.

Unromantic love is very important to me. It is the glue of what life is all about. It is how to world moves and how we grow and become more human.
