Workplace Trends In A Changing World

We have witnessed the big shift towards remote work but there are some other important trends that are continuing to evolve. The world we live in is diverse, as are our families and our workplace will be more culturally diverse than ever before. Things that were once considered taboo in the workplace are now becoming more commonplace. So, lets  look at a few workplace trends in a changing world!

Color

Traditionally, office attire was considered to be brown, black, grays and other neutral colors. Today, more people are choosing to add bold colors to show their individualism and letting their color and style reflect their personality. You may read my previous post about how color affects our life here https://t-worktalk.com/color-code-your-life-its-your-hue-to-success/.

Businesses may nevertheless find it necessary to establish a dress code or some form of guidance in order to avoid extremes in employee attire. Also, you may find that in places like law offices, more traditional attire may be required but perhaps one day we’ll see judges wearing different colored robes!

Here are a few tried-and-true finds that may complement your dress ensemble:

Your hair is an important component of your body image and many people consider it to be their crowning glory. Employers are increasingly removing the outdated and ridiculous hair requirements of the past from their employee handbook and are now allowing employees to wear their natural hair as they deemed fit. Ironically, most of the workplace hair requirements were directed at the black community.

The hairstyle initiative is supported by the United States House of Congress who recently passed the Crown Act, a bill which prohibits employer discrimination against natural hair and how you choose to wear your hair.

Second Job

We are living in a time when many people are strapped for cash and their job may not provide them with enough money to cover their current and future expenses. More companies are recognizing the need of their employees and are allowing them to work second jobs. It is important that you consult with your Human Resources Department before starting your secondary job to avoid any potential conflicts of interest.

Dining

Separation of mangers and team members at celebratory functions such as a Christmas luncheon is slowly becoming a thing of the past. It is important for all levels of team members to mix and mingle at these types of casual functions because it’s a great way for the team to get to know each other and to boost team spirit. The perpetuation of separation or the “You versus Us” situation promotes distrust and divisiveness.

The twenty-first century has ushered in a new era in the way we operate. The ability of employers to adapt to the changing work environment and the needs of employees will determine a company’s success.

We don’t have to be natural with the coily curls . Whatever you want to do with your hair is what you should do. Let stop judging each other because of our choices and start empowering each other.
