Self-Analysis: How You See Yourself

Who Am I?

Self-analysis is helpful in determining your best career fit and life goals. It allows you to increase your personal awareness and understanding of what fits your self-concept; it puts things into perspective.

Various factors, such as the fear of change, self-doubt, a lack of direction and the fear of losing status may cause people to remain in relationships and jobs that are not right for them.

When it comes to making career and life decisions, it’s important to get a clear picture of who you are and what you want at the different stages of your life. Understanding who you are will allow you to own a meaningful existence. Check out the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) and the 16 Personality Factors (16PF) test it is a great tool to help you know you!

Personal Assessment – Self-Analysis

Identify your areas of interest; what you like and dislike and embrace them as this will allow you to have a better balance on how you spend your time.

Your distinct traits and personality make you special. Although you can’t change your basic personality – mostly genetics -, you can change how you think and act in certain situations.

Determine your core values and engage your moral compass to uphold the principles that are important to you. By focusing on your knowledge, abilities, and skills you will make better personal and professional decisions. Use what you are good at to succeed.

Plan and Act

To be your true self, you must first learn about yourself.  Recognize that you are a multidimensional being who is gifted with multiple emotions, expressions and abilities. Therefore, take time to be with you and look inward. Build the connection with yourself on a level that will enable you to fully see who you are and allow you to find joy and purpose in life.

Now that you have completed your self-discovery, you should now be able to determine what your options are. Use the results as an opportunity to change or adjust your direction. The next step is to plan on how to self-correct. The plan should include the tools ( example: taking a class, mentor) to help you make your adjustment. Based on your life stage, the action you take will determine when and how long it will take for you to achieve your goal.

A year ago I took my leap of faith and retired after 34 years, then moved to Canada and I’m happy.

Don’t let uncertainty, nor fear to hold you back. Just do it!
