The oxford dictionary defines apt as; having a tendency to do something. Strengthen your job search and achieve excellent success by committing to these positive actions.
Well lets be APT!
- Action
- Perseverance
- Train
Action
In my first post I wrote on how hard it is to find a job without being organized. You have developed your strategy, stay the course, you must now act!
It requires developing a habit…stay with me! It’s a good habit! You will find your rhythm if you take these actions.
Your action must be consistent and repetitious. Set specific times to do your job search and stick with it! Changing jobs…the same rules apply!
Be totally committed to your strategy in-order to achieve your goal. You must prepare daily as if you are going to work. Get up, get dressed and start your job search activity. You will feel better by sticking with this routine. Maintain a list of your daily activities, it will make you feel more productive.
Put your game face on and take action!
Perseverance
“If you’re walking down the right path and you’re willing to keep walking, eventually you’ll make progress.” – President Barack Obama
It’s been said that only the strong survive … True! It’s not a matter of being physically or mentally strong; it’s how you cultivate strength. Most of us, at some point in our lives feel that it’s impossible to get a particular task done. Remember …breathe!
It’s very easy to feel like you are not getting ahead, will never find a job … stay with me, you will!
Fifteen years ago I moved to the United States and was warned that it could take me up to a year to find a job. You guessed it….It took me 82 days! Luck?… no just simple perseverance!
Yes, fifteen years ago things may have been a bit different and there were limitless job search options available. Today, we are in the throes of a deadly virus and this has made an already tedious process more stressful. Job fairs, face to face interviews and other job initiations are no longer the accepted norm as many businesses are forced to migrate to remote environments.
Perseverance walks hand in hand with discipline. You must be disciplined in the approach to your job search. Don’t believe that discipline is reserved for our children, the same principle should be applied to your job search.
Commit to the climb…With discipline you become powerful! You will have the power over your job search activities to achieve your goals! Achieve excellent success!
Train
On your job search, train in something new. It’s never too late to learn! Explore a new career, keep up on trends in your chosen career or in technology. Develop new learning to boost your resume and job flexibility!
Harvard College https://online-learning.harvard.edu/ is a good place to start your short courses search. The college offers many free courses with a small fee for a certificate should you require one. You will learn a new skill and gain a certificate from an Ivy League school… try it!
T’s tip: Don’t conduct your job search on your employer’s computer!
