Inchstone Over Milestone

I am not sure where or when I first heard the phrase “Inchstone over milestone,” but it stuck with me—and for good reason.
There’s something deeply powerful about celebrating the small, seemingly insignificant steps we take toward growth, healing, or success. These inchstones are the quiet victories: getting out of bed on a rainy morning to go to work, finishing a task you’ve been dreading, taking that first brave step toward a new goal.
Too often, we wait for birthdays, promotions, or grand achievements to celebrate. But why wait? Every day offers something worth honoring. Each moment is an opportunity to pause, breathe, and give ourselves credit. Life moves fast, and those little moments can be fleeting.
So let’s learn to celebrate inchstones—the small but mighty steps that lead us forward. Because progress, no matter how tiny, is still progress.
Inchstone Over Milestone in Celebration

As we celebrate the Easter season with traditions like passion plays, brunches, dinners and egg hunts, we should not forget that beyond the festivities lies a deeper and more meaningful message—the quiet power of love, hope, and service. The real impact is how we carry these gestures into our daily lives and sharing them in small, simple but powerful ways.
In the spirit of inchstone over milestone, it’s the small acts of kindness that carry the greatest impact. The Easter season also encourages us to look outward – without seeking recognition, offering help with open hearts. These acts aren’t big flashy moments but they are great meaningful ones – a warm meal shared with someone in need, a kind word to lift a sad heart, a listening ear or a helping hand.
You don’t have to move mountains to make a difference. Just being present, being kind, being available—these are the inchstones of Easter. These everyday small moments reflect the true meaning of the season. These inchstones— simple, consistent steps of compassion—are what truly shape a meaningful life.
So this season, let’s celebrate the inchstones—the quiet ways we lift others, reflect love, and carry hope forward. After all, it’s not always the big things that change the world, sometimes it’s the small things done with great love.
