Life Needs Motion For Survival

New year, new season, new goals…Let’s Move!

The Oxford dictionary defines movement as   “an act of changing physical location or position or of having this changed.” Your ability to achieve your goals depends on your well-being and wellness requires movement.  So, to modify how you live and work, apply Sir Isaac Newton’s third law of motion which states – for every action there is a reaction. Life needs motion!

Just Move!

Many people spend most of their workday sitting. Incorporate mini breaks into your workday; 3-5 minutes of stretching, walking the stairs or a quick walk around the block is a great way to refresh your mind and body. Move for you, not for others!

Make time for physical activity, moving every thirty minutes can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, just move! Warm up and cool down to prevent injury.

  1. Dancing – it’s fun and it increases your flexibility and coordination
  2. Chair Yoga – excellent activity for disconnecting and re-energizing during work
  3. Pi-Yo (combination of Yoga and Pilates) – combining body weight adjustment and relaxation
  4. Jogging / Walking – great heart health activity, full body workout
  5. Water Aerobics – good for bones, joints, heart health

Try working out with young family members by playing a round of mini golf. It’s fun, refreshing and a great way to strengthen your family connection!

Exercise Safety Tips: Life Needs Motion

  • Walk or run with a partner in a park or on deserted track
  • Exercise in hot weather can lead to heat cramps; warm up and cool down slowly
  • Make sure you are wearing the right clothes for exercising outdoors in cold weather, failure to do this can lead to frostbite
  • Keep hydrated and take breaks

Movement Affirmation

Positive self-talk such as “I am strong” or “I am capable” will help you remain motivated and committed to your work-out goal. Add music to your exercise routine to help boost your motivation and remain self-focused. You are your own lifeline therefore, monitor and nurture you – self preservation.

T’s Tip: Life Matters…You Matter! Step outside of your comfort zone to discover new things about yourself and the world in which you live; make it your moment to discover you.
