The End is the Beginning
Dereliction is an opportunity- it’s not the end, it’s the beginning. -Alison Gordon (cultural organizer, Bangor Ireland). New Life!
There is truth in her words…Old does not equate to being useless, that it is the end, finished or that it is over. So, instead of throwing out something that is old, use it as the framework for a new form or process. View it as an opportunity to enhance and restore life where decay may have taken root or set in.
The same is true for people; as the biological years become numbers that are no longer visible on a calendar, we should garner the experience and wisdom of those who have seen and done it before so it can help those who follow to make advancement in their life and work.

Good Bones
The popular reality television network HGTV features the entertaining and educational “Good Bones” series, which shows viewers how to renovate old or damaged houses.
The shows main objective is restoration; making a home that has aged but still has sound structural integrity – good bones – new-looking again. In spite of the deterioration, the designers are able to see the homes’ solid foundations and skillfully craft and renovate them so that they are once again usable spaces. The results of the renovation are extremely impressive and often stunning, giving the impression that the home was newly built.
Similarly, employers must put to use the “good bones” — the experience and knowledge – of older workers rather than letting them go to waste. Dispel the misconception that older employees are out of date or incapable of learning new skills.
Working Together – New Life
Give younger / newer employees the chance to collaborate with more experienced ones directly on projects. The advantages of this kind of scenario include the development of stronger bonds between employees, the acquisition of mentoring, and the capturing of the employees assets. The new and experienced voices working together will shed light on alternate / fresh ideas which can improve business procedures and methods.
T’s Tip: Regardless of age or status, recognize and acknowledge the importance of every individual. New life can be found in the old!
