An awakening can be defined as the realization that something has changed or there is an unexpected occurrence. The dictionary describes it as “sudden consciousness “ or the “act of starting to understand something.” The Awakening!

New Consciousness
A couple years ago, I experienced an unexpected and rude awakening. The magnitude of the awakening challenged the veracity of the moment and the person involved. It was a core jolting moment of an unforeseen happening that made one feel the urge to turn around and flee.
Initially the experience appeared bigger than one I could possibly handle. The moment literally took my breath away and momentarily challenged my belief that there was no mountain too high for me to climb, and no challenge I could not take on and succeed. Yes, it was a significant event, necessitating the assistance of a close friend while I worked through the challenge.
Lessons Learned – The Awakening
These are some lessons I learned during the awakening that you could use in your own situation:
- There are times when things will surprise you; pause for a moment to process what is happening. Its normal to become alarmed at a new experience or when facing something different and difficult
- Spirituality enables you to find peace and acceptance as you share your awareness with a higher power
- Be calm; breathe, practice your OM (yoga breath)
- Consult people who may have had similar epiphanies for advice
- Make your instinct your best friend; it is usually right
- Acknowledge the emotions that you experience; for example, cry if you feel the need to as it helps to relieve stress
- Meditation allows you to gain insight and clarity
- Neither life or I are perfect, I must accept both the highs and the lows
- Fear will impair your judgment and will prevent you finding the best solution to allow you to function in the new awakened environment
- Do not look down, look up, see the event as temporary and give yourself the compassion you need
- Recognize that there may not always be an easy or simple solution; accept what cannot be changed and work at what can be changed
- Never attempt to rationalize another person’s actions because they are never what you think they are
- Even though an experience may be unpleasant, there is always a lesson to be learnt
