GENDER BIAS
Biases are basic instincts that everyone has; it is the ability to like one thing more than another. People have biases for many different reasons; bias is inherently rooted in our lives. Gender bias occurs when one gender is given preference for specific roles.
There are activities that highlight gender inequality and woman rights but unfortunately, the bias against women continues globally. International Women’s Day is a celebration to recognize the strength, spirit and leadership of women and girls.
WORKPLACE BIAS
Nationwide, big businesses are mainly run by men, making the work environment a petri-dish for gender biases. Having worked in both the private and public sectors has given me an up-close view of the running’s of the “boys club” culture. The biases against women in the workplace goes beyond gender identity, it also includes nationalities and cultures.
Women’s talent must be allowed to thrive in a 21st-century workplace where training is encouraged, work-life balance is supported, and women are treated with respect. Businesses must provide compensation and benefits commensurate with the quality of work performed, give substantial credibility to women’s voices, reward smart ideas, and promote women based on their abilities, skills, and experience. Additionally, they must provide the assistance necessary for women to self-actualize personally and professionally.
GIRL POWER
We must start early to teach our girls to reach for the sky, to become leaders, to love themselves, to be the best and at the same time we must also teach our boys that girls are not inferior and are their equals. MENTORSHIP
Women in business leadership roles should become mentors; assist other women who are entering the workforce to succeed. Women leaders must demonstrate moral integrity, do not be complicit and speak out against gender bias so others can learn and emulate. Women leaders should foster an environment of success and work to help other women realize their dreams! Lets work to end the promotion of unqualified employees over high performers. Start by mentoring tomorrow’s leaders.
EVERYDAY IS WOMEN’S DAY
Women wear many hats and assume multiple responsibilities; parent, caregiver, counselor, nurse, chauffer and worker to name a few, all of which are performed at the same time. We are powerful human beings who shoulder many responsibilities yet still strive for advancement. For too long women have been relegated to the edge of the mandala, so in celebration of International Woman’s Day let’s turn the celebration into Everyday is Woman’s Day and continue to work to break the cycle of gender bias.

I agree that women should be celebrated for the multiple roles that they play in our lives. However, I do believe that no one should be biased against…promotion should strictly be based on one’s abilities and not because of gender or pity! Good work!!
