“Women Rising” is the theme for the 2021 International Women’s Day and it is with this in mind that I decided to write a follow up to my last blog.

In January 2021, the U.S. Census Bureau released data which showed that 19.9% of all US businesses were owned by women! Women have come a long way and are a force to be reckoned with! So, lets continue to lift up and empower our sisters, mothers, daughters and all women in small business!

I was able to share in the Women’s Day activities and was fascinated by the words of one of the presenters, Sylvia Henderson, a successful business owner and author. In sharing, she mentioned how overwhelmed she felt when she started her business because, “operating solo you don’t know what you don’t know.” So, she decided to get with people who were successful to help her to grow. She took the time to learn from others and by doing so, discovered new things, solved problems and developed resources that she didn’t have. Hold on to your seat, she gives us more…“when two or more come together, you create a third force or energy; 1+1=3!”

Yes, that’s all you need, just two, to create a force…Women Rising!

Henderson’s tips to grow your resource circle:

Create a value group with members who have a mindset for success
Limit your group size to 5-8 persons
Meet regularly and always document the meetings
Own your accountability for success
Seek resources and guidance from people who can support the group; people who are successful in their career or business
Facilitator; choose an external individual who is skilled in keeping a group together
