The Reaction

Black poetry is a reaction to both historical and contemporary black experiences. The poetry provides us with a perspective into the fight for justice and equality. The writings speak of our heroes, civil rights and the beauty of the black people. Black History!

The Day

Valentine’s Day is celebrated globally as a “day of love – a romantic day,” and is a time when many people display affection for the people who are important in their lives. The Oxford dictionary defines movement as   “an act of changing physical location or position or of having this changed.” Your ability to achieve your goals depends on your well-being and wellness requires movement.  So, to modify how you live and work, apply Sir Isaac Newton’s third law of motion which states – for every action there is a reaction. Life needs motion!

Just Move!

Many people spend most of their workday sitting. Incorporate mini breaks into your workday; 3-5 minutes of stretching, walking the stairs or a quick walk around the block is a great way to refresh your mind and body. Move for you, not for others!

Make time for physical activity, moving every thirty minutes can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, just move! Warm up and cool down to prevent injury.

You are recognizing the injustices of the past and the necessity for conscious action to remove the injustices in the making. Christmas at my grandparents’ house when I was a child was a wonderful memory. The Special Moments! I recall…

 Our Tree

The flurry to decorate the two conifer trees that stood proudly on opposite sides of the gate began early December. My siblings and I enjoyed sorting thru boxes of beautiful decorations to hang on the tree. The not- so- fun chore was untangling strands of lights which were improperly stored the previous year.

All throughout December, Christmas carols were played and could be heard from any room in the house. We would happily sing along to the cheerful tempos of our favorite carols, such as The Little Drummer Boy and Joy to the World as we decorated the trees with other members of the family. We were carefree and undoubtedly happy to be spending the holidays at home and away from boarding school.
