The Reaction
Black poetry is a reaction to both historical and contemporary black experiences. The poetry provides us with a perspective into the fight for justice and equality. The writings speak of our heroes, civil rights and the beauty of the black people. Black History!
The poems reveal the essence of our spirit, shows our resilience, and our capacity to succeed in the face of hardship. They speak of our values, our humanity and remind us that out of many we are one – one people, one voice.

Here are some words of Black Poets I have selected to share with you:
Langston Hughes – Dreams
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
